Be Slow To Speak

You might be asking, “Which side of the plate is this post?”

Kind of both. Kind of neither.

This post is to help presenters learn from some of my mistakes, as well as, mistakes of others (not necessarily during presentations).

Just lessons to remind us to think before we speak … something I don’t always do well.

Examples of statements made before thinking:

  • “Everyone can say they are a mom.”  Really? I am not a mom. A doggie mom, yes.

  • “He is gay.”  Just because of the tone of his voice.  Actually, he has a girlfriend.

  • “She’s a drug addict.”  When seeing her administer insulin in the bathroom before a meal.

  • “Focus on the movable middle rather than those on the extreme left.”  In a Q & A session after a presentation.

Not too proud to admit it. The last one was me. Not the most favorable evals.

A great lesson.
